Crawley Looking To Take Full Advantage In Crewe Game

Crawley take on Crewe Alexandra at home tomorrow afternoon as they look to carry on their push for safety.

Crawley were 2-0 victors last Saturday when they beat Harrogate 2-0 at the Broadfield Stadium. Crawley boss Scott Lindsey described it as a “solid performance” in his post match interview after Max Anderson put the Reds in the first half ahead before Josh Flint sealed the deal from a corner with 25 minutes left to play.

Ahead of this weekend’s game Lindsey stressed it is important that his side “take advantage of certain aspects” after Crewe played on Tuesday night which means that Lindsey’s team have “had a little bit more recovery time than they have.” He also added that Crawley are “in a good place at the moment as well, so we really have to take advantage of it.”

Crewe currently sit tenth in the League Two table with 44 points to their name and are just five points off the playoff places. They have won 12 games this season and lost ten with seven of those losses coming away from home.

Crawley sit in 20th, dropping from 19th following Bristol Rovers 2-0 win against Walsall earlier on this week. Crawley’s recent turn in form has pulled them away from the relegation zone and they are currently six points clear of the relegation zone and Lindsey said “we’ve just got to continue it, the job’s not done. We’ve got away from where we wanted to, but we need to continue it now.”

In the reverse fixture back in August Crawley lost 1-0 away at Crewe through a goal from Aston Villa loanee Tommi O’Reilly. The last time the Reds beat Crewe was on Crawley’s famous day at Wembley where they secured promotion to League One in the playoff final winning 2-0. When Lindsey was asked about that day and how much he thinks about it he replied, “I think we reference it More than think about it, it’s a reference point to us because it was a marker of success.”

A couple of weeks back Lindsey hinted there may be some more incomings before deadline day, but that was not the case come the end of the January transfer window and Lindsey mentioned that “there was one I was really keen on doing but we just couldn’t reach the money.” He added that “it wasn’t that we were short, we just felt that what we were offering was the right price.”

The Crawley boss also provided an injury update on certain players. Max Anderson who was subbed off at half time against Harrogate last Saturday is “going to be probably around four to six weeks” after going for a scan.

Scott Malone, who has been out since early November, “trained fully today for the first time, but maybe it might be too soon for him to be included”, and Arsenal loanee Louie Copley “trained fully today for the first time, sadly it might be too soon for him but certainly Tuesday he’ll be available.”

Can Crawley build on their impressive performances and results of late against Crewe this Saturday with the early kick off time of 12:31?
